Arc Raiders Expeditions Halt After September — Embark Overhauls System Until 2027

22 August 2026 · 3 min read · News

If you’ve been putting off your next Arc Raiders Expedition, now is officially the time to stop deliberating. Developer Embark Studios has confirmed that after the fifth run closes on 29 September, the feature will go dark until early 2027 — with the studio citing player feedback that demands “bigger changes” than it can deliver between cycles.

The fifth Expedition opens on 8 September and runs until 29 September. After that window shuts, Arc Raiders players enter an extended quiet period on this front, with Embark aiming to rebuild the system from the ground up before it returns.

Why Embark Studios Is Halting the System

The decision comes from sustained player criticism of how Arc Raiders’ Expeditions have been structured. In a statement on the game’s website, Embark was direct about where the system has been falling short: “We have been carefully reviewing your feedback on Expeditions, and while we’ve made ongoing improvements along the way, we’ve come to realize that some of the issues you’ve raised, like the tight departure windows, the reward structure, and accessibility for new players, need more than incremental fixes. They call for bigger changes.”

Expeditions are Arc Raiders’ late-game prestige mechanic. Players voluntarily reset their Raider — losing accumulated level, stash contents, and resources — in exchange for permanent upgrades, additional skill points, expanded stash space, and other rewards. It is, by design, a high-stakes cycle that has divided the community since the extraction shooter launched in early 2026. Players who embraced the wipe loop found it a compelling incentive to keep playing; those who hit the narrow departure windows without adequate preparation found the whole thing alienating.

Completing all five cycles unlocks the Zenith Outfit. With the fifth run confirmed as the last before the overhaul, players who are one step away have a clear incentive to get involved in September.

Key dates: Expedition 5 opens 8 September, closes 29 September. Weekly Trials pause from 22 September to 8 October. Expeditions return in early 2027 with major improvements — Embark will share details in September.

What Happens to Your Progress During the Pause

Embark has confirmed that the pause will not erase progress already earned. Any consecutive buffs accumulated through previous runs carry over and stay active during the break. For players mid-Caravan, incomplete Caravans will be converted into Ermal Vouchers of equal value, usable on Ermal offers, ARC Parts, firearms trades, or sold for Coin. Nothing is simply lost.

The weekly Trials are also affected. Starting 22 September, Trials pause for a fortnight until 8 October — timed around the Frozen Trail update, the game’s major October content drop. That update arrives without a new Expedition attached, which marks a notable change in how Embark has been structuring its content calendar.

A Community Split Down the Middle

Player sentiment around the news has been sharply divided. IGN’s coverage captured the mood with the headline “Hoping for a Huge October Surprise, But Not Holding My Breath.” Some players are relieved that Embark Studios is committing to meaningful structural change rather than continuing to patch a system they’ve found frustrating at a fundamental level. Others are worried about what a gap stretching into 2027 does to Arc Raiders’ active player base during the hiatus.

The extraction shooter had a broadly positive launch, but Expeditions became a point of friction almost immediately. The narrow windows — players have limited time to register, prepare a Caravan, and commit to the reset — proved off-putting for casual players, while dedicated players questioned whether the grind justified the wipe. Embark’s acknowledgement that the issues need systemic fixes, not patches, has been welcomed in principle. Whether that acknowledgement translates into something the community actually endorses won’t be clear until September’s planned update on the redesign.

Arc Raiders’ second year will be shaped by whether the reworked Expeditions solve these problems or introduce new ones. For now, if departing has been on your to-do list, Embark’s message is unambiguous: the time is September, and the fifth run is the last one for a while.
