One million copies. 72 hours. The Blood of Dawnwalker has crossed a seven-figure sales milestone just three days after its launch on 3 September across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S — a result that few first-time studios could have predicted.
Developer Rebel Wolves marked the occasion with a post on X: “Thank you for playing, sharing, supporting, and being part of the community!” Understated, given the scale of the achievement. For a debut title from an independent studio, selling one million copies inside 72 hours is exceptional by any measure.
Witcher Veterans Building Their Own World
Rebel Wolves was founded by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, director of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The studio draws heavily from CD Projekt RED alumni — developers who worked across both The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077 before Tomaszkiewicz assembled a new team under the Rebel Wolves banner. Bandai Namco stepped in as publisher.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is an action RPG built around a genuinely unusual premise: you play as a half-vampire, human by day and bloodsucker by night, racing against a 30-day in-game clock. Every quest, every major decision, every fight costs time. Miss a side quest window and it’s gone — forcing players to decide what actually matters rather than ticking off everything on a map.
Critical reception backed the design. Eurogamer awarded four out of five stars, describing the game as “an RPG daring to do things differently, and a lot of what it does works.” GameSpew called it “undoubtedly one of the highlights of the year.” Metacritic sits at 83 on PC and PS5 from 36 reviews, with the Xbox version scoring 86.
70,000 Concurrent Steam Players for a Singleplayer Game
The game peaked at 70,692 concurrent players on Steam over the launch weekend. For a singleplayer RPG — where concurrent spikes are frontloaded and don’t benefit from the return traffic that multiplayer titles generate — that’s a healthy indicator of genuine day-one interest rather than passive installs.
Platform data paints an interesting picture. PC accounts for roughly 30% of total copies sold, putting Steam at approximately 308,000 units. The PlayStation 5 version dominates: review counts on the PS Store had reached around 3,800 at the time of the announcement, compared to just 277 on Xbox — a ratio suggesting Sony’s platform drove the bulk of sales by a significant margin.

The 60fps Reversal That Happened Just in Time
The launch wasn’t without early turbulence. Rebel Wolves initially announced The Blood of Dawnwalker would not include a 60fps Performance Mode on PS5 or Xbox Series X/S at launch. The response from console players was immediate and pointed.
The studio moved fast. “We heard your feedback — it was clear how much this mattered to many of you, so we focused on finishing the next round of tests,” they told fans. Performance Mode landed on day one via a launch patch on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PS5 Pro. The Xbox Series S remains capped at 30fps, a constraint the studio attributed to the hardware’s specifications.
Key point: The Xbox Series S version of Blood of Dawnwalker does not include Performance Mode — only PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X received the 60fps option at launch.
A Debut That Changes the Studio’s Trajectory
A million copies in 72 hours is the kind of result that reshapes what comes next. It validates Rebel Wolves as a studio capable of launching at scale, makes a sequel or DLC commercially viable, and puts Konrad Tomaszkiewicz’s team firmly in the conversation for major action RPG developers.
Rebel Wolves have made no announcements about post-launch content plans. With the game’s 30-day clock mechanic creating natural replay value, the community is already building — and the studio’s next move will be watched closely by an industry hungry for new RPG franchises.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and GOG.
