What do you get when you combine a fifteen-year-old game, a world-famous flat-pack furniture brand, and a British actor with one of the most distinctive voices in comedy? Apparently, one of the best gaming collaborations in recent memory — and quite possibly the most unexpected.
Skyrim has spent the better part of a decade being ported, re-released, and extended through mods. But nothing in that long strange history quite prepared anyone for this.
IKEA has released an official Skyrim Creation featuring a sentient Kallax shelving unit — and Matt Berry, best known as Laszlo Cravensworth in What We Do in the Shadows, is voicing it. The mod is called Kallax Storageborn. It is free. It is available right now. And yes, it is entirely real.
Meet Kallax Storageborn, Your New Companion
Kallax Storageborn is the result of a collaboration between IKEA and Kinggath Creations — the modding studio behind Starfield’s acclaimed Watchtower mod. The idea plays directly on one of Skyrim’s most enduring frustrations: the over-encumbrance problem, where your Dragonborn grinds to a halt under the weight of accumulated loot.
To summon Kallax Storageborn, you must first become over-encumbered. At that point, you can call upon him using a custom Dragon Shout: “AYE-KEY-YAH.” He will appear carrying unlimited items on your behalf, whether he’s your active companion or not. He also reorganises your home when you return, tidying up messes and turning objects the right way around — a detail that feels very IKEA.
Matt Berry’s Voice: Berry’s performance leans into every beat you’d hope for — the baritone gravitas of a self-important piece of flatpack furniture on a grand adventure through ancient Skyrim dungeons. Clips shared online suggest he’s having an exceptional time.
Quests, Dungeons, and a Boss Called the Clutter Golem
The Creation is not just a cosmetic add-on. Kinggath Creations built a full quest line around the collaboration, triggered by the moment you become over-encumbered. The quests take you to a Dwemer-styled IKEA furniture store — a crossover that somehow makes complete sense within Skyrim’s ancient-civilisation lore — and then through a cluttered dungeon inspired by a Nord archive.
At the climax, you face the Clutter Golem — a boss fight that doubles as a metaphor for anyone who has ever stared at an overstuffed spare room. New gear includes Dwemer Allen Key weapons (available as sword, staff, and dagger), blue and yellow reskinned armour, a Meatball Helmet, and an actual summonable meatball food item. Kallax himself wears a version of Skyrim’s Iron Helmet.
Why IKEA Picked Skyrim — and Why It Works
It is worth asking — not for nothing — why IKEA chose Skyrim for this particular campaign. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has been on sale since 2011 and shows absolutely no sign of fading. With one of gaming’s most active modding communities and an installed base that spans multiple console generations, it remains an oddly ideal advertising vehicle — particularly for a brand whose Swedish practicality and quirky naming conventions have long made it ripe for internet humour.
Matt Berry is the perfect casting choice. His ability to deliver absurdist material with complete commitment — most recently demonstrated in Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight — makes him exactly right for a baritone shelving unit who takes its own adventures extremely seriously.
The Kallax Storageborn Creation is available now for free via the in-game Creations menu in Skyrim on PC and Xbox. It is possibly the most IKEA thing to ever happen to a fantasy RPG, and that is intended as a high compliment.
