When the Cosmere Roleplaying Game launched its Kickstarter campaign in 2024, it raised over $15 million from more than 55,000 backers — the most-funded TTRPG in Kickstarter history. The first wave of content was built around Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive setting. Now, in autumn 2026, the expansion everyone was really waiting for is open for preorder: the Mistborn campaign setting, published by Brotherwise Games.
The Mistborn Handbook, World Guide, and Welcome to Scadriel starter set are now available to preorder on Amazon, with hardcover editions releasing on 4 November 2026.
What the Mistborn Campaign Setting Includes
The core of the expansion is the Mistborn Handbook — a hardcover player reference at $59.99 covering character creation across both Eras of Mistborn. It introduces the metallic arts specific to Scadriel’s magic system: allomancy (swallowing metals to gain powers) and feruchemy (storing personal attributes in metal for later use). These mechanics are unique to Mistborn and don’t appear in the Stormlight Archive content from the main Cosmere RPG.
The Mistborn World Guide ($59.99) gives game masters the setting knowledge to build campaigns rooted in a realistic Scadriel, covering history, geography, factions, and world mechanics. And then there’s Mistborn Legacy — a 265-page complete campaign book at $59.99, also due 4 November, designed to take a group of players through a full story arc from start to finish.

Playing Through Era 1 and Era 2 of Scadriel
One of the more interesting design decisions in the Mistborn setting is the dual-era structure. Era 1 — covering the original Mistborn trilogy — supports play at levels 3 through 6. Era 2, set centuries later in a more industrialised Scadriel with a different cast of characters, runs from levels 3 through 9. The design also allows for campaigns with consequences that “echo across the centuries,” suggesting cross-era play is at least partly built into the system.
The Cosmere RPG core rules use a modified d20 system, six attributes, and a three-action economy loosely inspired by Pathfinder. A “Plot Die” — a d6 whose faces include Opportunities or Complications — gives game masters extra tools for dramatic moments. Mistborn’s magic-heavy setting should give that system plenty to work with.
New to Mistborn? The Starter Set Is the Entry Point
The Welcome to Scadriel set, at 24 pages and $24.99, is aimed at players who haven’t read any of Sanderson’s Cosmere novels. It’s a visual guide to the world — enough grounding to sit down at a table and play without needing to have worked through the original trilogy first. The release date is 21 October, slightly ahead of the main books, which makes sense: it’s designed to get people curious and ready before the full campaign materials land.
For a game whose parent setting runs to several thousand pages across multiple novel series, having a low-cost, accessible starting point for Mistborn specifically is a smart move.
This Isn’t Sanderson’s First Go at a Mistborn TTRPG
The Cosmere RPG expansion isn’t the first attempt to bring Mistborn to the tabletop. In 2012, Crafty Games produced the Mistborn Adventure Game — a TTRPG set in Era 1 that received additional supplements before fading from view. It was a solid effort for its time, but the new Brotherwise version arrives with far greater resources behind it and an audience that’s grown considerably since Sanderson’s books went mainstream.
Brotherwise has also produced a Mistborn Deckbuilding Game — separately from the RPG — which received an 8/10 from IGN. For Sanderson fans who prefer cards to dice, it’s still an option while the RPG books are in transit.
Preorders are live now at Amazon. Physical copies of the main books ship from 4 November 2026.
