The highest-rated LEGO game ever made is LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, with a Metascore of 83 — the first brick game to knock the Skywalker Saga off the top of the critics’ table. The best-selling, according to the LEGO Group itself, remains LEGO Marvel Super Heroes from 2013. Between those two facts sits twenty years of Traveller’s Tales output, and this page ranks the lot of it.
We scored 27 LEGO titles on Metacritic and pulled sales figures from Warner Bros. announcements, the LEGO Group’s anniversary releases, Guinness World Records and VGChartz, then ordered the eighteen standout games below. Scores are the ones Metacritic displays for each game’s lead platform as of August 2026. Figures in aggregator-farm “stats” articles — including a widely recycled “12.3 million” for the Skywalker Saga that appears only on AI-generated storefront pages — were checked against primary sources and excluded where no publisher confirmation exists.

Two things jump out of the table. First, the gap between the top and the middle is thin — eleven of the eighteen games score within four Metacritic points of each other, which is why community lists disagree so violently. Second, the LEGO Star Wars series owns four of the top fourteen slots, a dominance no other licence comes close to matching.

Legacy of the Dark Knight is the first LEGO game to play like an Arkham title. TT Games cut the usual hundreds-strong roster to seven Bat-family characters — Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Catwoman and two more unlockable fighters — and deepened each one’s gadgetry and combat options instead. The result, released 22 May 2026, earned a 84 Metascore on PS5 from reviews including 100s from Screen Rant and GAMINGbible, and landed four mixed reviews and zero negative ones across its 47-review opening window.

The Skywalker Saga rebuilt the entire formula for 2022: a reworked camera, overhauled combat, an open-world galaxy structure, and every one of the nine saga films playable in a single package. Warner Bros. confirmed 3.2 million sales in the first fortnight — the biggest launch in LEGO game history — and 5 million by June 2022, the last official figure the publisher has released. It finished as the fifth best-selling game of 2022 in the US.
The Original Trilogy matters because it proved 2005’s first experiment was no fluke. It scored 81, sold 8.3 million by February 2009, and held the title of highest-rated LEGO game for sixteen years — first beaten by the Skywalker Saga in 2022, then by Legacy of the Dark Knight in 2026.

LEGO Party! is the modern outlier: a 2025 minigame collection in the Mario Party mould, with rocket-league-style car football, BMX courses and a game-show presentation. An 81 Metascore makes it the best-reviewed spin-off the brand has ever shipped.

Marvel Super Heroes closes the top five on rating but owns the sales crown. In its 25th anniversary announcement in December 2020, the LEGO Group named it the best-selling LEGO game of all time — the only title to top its own best-seller list — with Warner Bros. Interactive’s then-president David Haddad saying the same in 2017. No exact figure has ever been published, and we have deliberately avoided the unsourced numbers that float around aggregator sites.

LEGO game sales by series
Every figure below traces to a publisher announcement, a Guinness citation or VGChartz’s tracked estimates, each with its reference date. The headline: the LEGO Star Wars series alone has sold more than 50 million games.
| Series / game | Units sold | As of / source |
|---|---|---|
| LEGO Star Wars series (six games) | 50m+ | 2019, cited by Wikipedia’s Lego Star Wars article |
| LEGO Batman series | 14.4m | Warner Bros. via GameSpot, Feb 2013 |
| LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga | 15.72m | VGChartz via Guinness World Records, Aug 2016 |
| LEGO Batman: The Videogame | 12.81m | VGChartz via Guinness World Records, Nov 2014 |
| LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy | 8.3m | Feb 2009 |
| LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars | 7.33m | VGChartz estimates |
| LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game | 6.8m | Feb 2009 |
| LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga | 5m+ | Warner Bros., Jun 2022 (last official figure) |
| LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes | 3.4m | Warner Bros., Feb 2013 |
For wider context: the LEGO Group said in December 2020 that its games division had sold more than 200 million games across 80-plus commercial titles since 1995’s LEGO Fun to Build on the Sega Pico. By the 30th anniversary in December 2025, the catalogue had grown past 200 titles. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, Harry Potter Years 1–4, The Complete Saga and both early Batman games make up the official top five best-sellers named in that 2020 release.
Best LEGO games on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2
Nintendo hardware has the deepest LEGO library of any current platform, because nearly every TT Games release since 2017 shipped on Switch day one. The strongest picks:
- LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga — the complete nine-film package in handheld form; the Switch version was one of the strongest sellers of the launch window.
- LEGO City Undercover — the 2017 remaster brought the Wii U’s best exclusive to a wider audience.
- LEGO Harry Potter Collection — Years 1–4 and 5–7 bundled on one cartridge.
- LEGO Builder’s Journey and LEGO Voyagers — the two best LEGO puzzle games, built for short sessions.
- LEGO Marvel Super Heroes — still the benchmark open-world entry, ported to Switch in 2021.
On Switch 2, the story is new. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight launches on the system on 18 September 2026, roughly four months after its PS5/Xbox/PC debut — the first flagship LEGO release timed around Nintendo’s new console, with physical copies arriving as Game-Key Cards. If you’re weighing up the hardware itself, our UK console sales tracker for 2026 shows how the Switch 2 is pacing against PS5 and Xbox.
Best LEGO games on PS5
PS5 is the best place to play modern LEGO games, full stop. Legacy of the Dark Knight launched on the console in May 2026 with its highest per-platform score (84) and full DualSense support, while The Skywalker Saga runs a native PS5 build with faster load times than the PS4 edition. The back catalogue matters too: Marvel Super Heroes, DC Super-Villains and The Force Awakens all play on PS5 via backwards compatibility, which makes Sony’s console the strongest single machine for working through this ranking top to bottom.
The one gap: nothing from the pre-2013 catalogue — The Original Trilogy, The Complete Saga, the original Batman — has been re-released on current PlayStation hardware, so PS5 owners chasing the top-five entries on this list need to hold onto their PS3 and Wii discs.
Best LEGO games on PC
PC is where the quieter LEGO games shine. Builder’s Journey (79) and Voyagers (79) both launched on Steam to their strongest reviews outside console circles, and the entire modern TT Games catalogue — Skywalker Saga, Legacy of the Dark Knight, LEGO Party!, Horizon Adventures — ships on PC at launch. The Steam back catalogue also stretches to the 2005 original and The Complete Saga, both purchasable on Valve’s store, though their age shows without modern resolution patches.
One warning for PC buyers: LEGO 2K Drive, the 2023 open-world racer from Visual Concepts, was delisted from digital storefronts in 2026 with multiplayer servers scheduled to shut down in May 2027 — worth knowing before you pick up a key. For what’s thriving on Steam right now instead, see our live Steam player-count tracker.
The UK studio behind the genre

Almost every game in the table above was built in one place: Traveller’s Tales, founded in 1989 in Knutsford, Cheshire. The studio merged with publisher Giant Interactive in 2005 — the year LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game shipped — to form TT Games, which Warner Bros. acquired in November 2007. Two decades later, the Cheshire team has shipped more LEGO titles than every other studio combined and turned a toy licence into a genre that has sold over 200 million units.

The UK footprint extends beyond Cheshire. Brighton’s Studio Gobo co-developed LEGO Horizon Adventures with Amsterdam’s Guerrilla Games, and two of this list’s records are certified by Guinness World Records itself: The Complete Saga as best-selling LEGO game (15.72 million as of August 2016) and the original LEGO Batman as the best-selling superhero video game ever (12.81 million as of November 2014). Where those numbers sit in the wider picture, our full ranked list of the best-selling video games of all time puts LEGO’s totals against Minecraft, GTA V and the rest.
