Remedy Entertainment has found its commercial breakthrough. Control Resonant, the Finnish studio’s supernatural thriller launched on 24 September, has surpassed one million copies sold in less than three weeks — making it the fastest-selling game in Remedy’s 31-year history. The milestone, announced on 15 October, eclipses the previous record held by Alan Wake 2, which took roughly two months to reach the same figure in 2023.
The numbers are notable for several reasons. Control Resonant is Remedy’s first large-scale self-published release, meaning the studio retains a larger share of revenue than on previous titles. It also arrived in an unusually crowded September window, competing for attention against a stack of major launches.
Beating Alan Wake 2’s Pace
Alan Wake 2 won widespread critical acclaim in late 2023 and would have collected far more awards had Baldur’s Gate 3 not dominated the season. It reached one million copies sold by the end of December 2023, eventually climbing to 1.3 million by February 2024 and 3 million total by August 2026. Control Resonant has matched that initial milestone in a third of the time.
Control Resonant has soared past Alan Wake 2, which previously held the record for the studio’s fastest-selling title. The legacy sequel reached one million copies sold two months after its release; Control Resonant achieved that figure in just three weeks.
Remedy did not share a digital-versus-physical breakdown or reveal which platform led sales. The physical edition shipped on 15 October after going gold in September, meaning early sales are digital-heavy. Analysts at Inderes maintain a full-year estimate of 1.9 million copies, though they note Q3 figures were front-loaded and expect the bulk of remaining sales to land in Q4.
The Self-Publishing Bet Pays Off
The commercial performance vindicates Remedy’s decision to self-publish at this scale. The game was co-financed and co-produced with Annapurna Pictures, with reports pegging its budget at approximately €50 million. Estimates suggest it may need three to four million sales to recoup that investment — a target that now looks reachable given the opening pace.
Financial context: Remedy spent $18.4 million in February 2024 to buy back full Control rights from 505 Games. The original Control had passed six million sales by May 2026.
Resonant joins a select group of recent releases that have crossed the one-million mark in their opening weeks, alongside The Blood of Dawnwalker, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Star Wars Zero Company, and Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve.
What Comes Next
With a million copies moved and strong word-of-mouth, Control Resonant has established itself as Remedy’s most commercially successful launch. The question now is whether it can sustain momentum through the holiday season and approach the three-million mark that would secure its investment. Early indicators suggest it can.
