“I would die inside.”
That was Inde Navarrette’s reaction when the idea of voicing a character in the Resident Evil franchise was floated during an interview with Variety’s Tiana DeNicola in late July — and it might be the most enthusiastic unprompted pitch for a video game role anyone has made this year.
Navarrette is the breakout star of the 2026 horror film Obsession, in which she plays Nikki — a dual role that earned her early Oscar buzz and a growing reputation as one of the most compelling performers to emerge from the genre in years. It now appears she has ambitions on the other side of the screen too.
What Navarrette Said About Voicing a Resident Evil Character
During the Variety interview, DeNicola asked whether Navarrette had been approached to do any voice work for video games. The answer was a confirmed yes — though she kept the specifics under wraps.
“I wanna try something smaller to kind of test the waters, and then later, [do something] different, because video games are obviously a big interest of mine,” she said. “I love that world, specifically — the Resident Evil world.”

Capcom’s flagship horror franchise has long been a dream destination for actors wanting to cross into games — and given Navarrette’s background in psychological horror, the fit is not hard to picture. Her character in Obsession required her to convincingly portray two versions of the same person, a skill that maps neatly onto Resident Evil’s tradition of morally complex, layered protagonists.
A Lifelong Gamer — From PlayStation 2 to Twitch
Navarrette’s interest in games is not new, and runs deeper than casual celebrity enthusiasm. Speaking with GQ earlier this year, she described growing up playing party games on the PlayStation 2 with her mother and older brother, eventually transitioning into narrative-heavy titles including Red Dead Redemption 2 and The Last of Us. She is also a dedicated Call of Duty player — a detail that became public when a fan gifted her a sealed 2009 copy of Modern Warfare 2 at a meet-and-greet event.
The combination of a genuine gaming background and serious dramatic credentials is relatively rare in the casting conversation for big-budget game titles — and it may explain why she has already received approaches from studios without having to put herself forward publicly.
Her Twitch channel gained viral momentum in the wake of Obsession‘s success, though Navarrette subsequently deleted her VOD archive. The channel’s brief moment of prominence gave fans a glimpse into a gaming personality that sits somewhat at odds with the serious dramatic work she is becoming known for — which, if anything, makes the Resident Evil casting idea more interesting.
Note: Navarrette confirmed she has already been approached for at least one voice acting project, though no title or studio has been named publicly.
The Resident Evil Film Is Also Coming This September
Navarrette’s interest arrives at a moment when the Resident Evil franchise is unusually active on multiple fronts. Director Zach Cregger’s new Resident Evil film is set for a theatrical release this September — news that visibly excited Navarrette during the interview, despite her initially appearing unaware it was in production.
“Okay, I will buy a ticket,” she said when told about Cregger’s film. “That’s exciting!”
Whether the voice acting work already lined up for Navarrette will turn out to be Resident Evil, or something smaller in preparation for it, remains to be seen. For what it’s worth, Resident Evil has a recent track record of pulling casting choices that would have seemed unlikely a few years earlier — Ella Balinska’s role in Infinite Darkness being one example. A performer with Navarrette’s dramatic range and existing gaming fanbase would represent a significant get.
Given the scale of attention she is currently drawing — fans are simultaneously lobbying Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige to cast her as Mystique in the X-Men reboot — Capcom would be securing a remarkably prominent name at what appears to be a career-defining moment.
