Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines Remaster Rumoured, Though Leaker Insists It Is Not a Remake

18 October 2026 · 4 min read · News

A remaster of the cult 2004 role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines may be in development, according to an unverified claim circulating on Reddit. The leaker behind the rumour insists, however, that it would be a remaster rather than a full remake, though they hint at unspecified caveats.

The post, appearing on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, comes from a user who claims to have previously leaked information about multiple games, including the revelation that Forza Horizon 6 would be set in Japan. That particular tip proved accurate, though the track record of anonymous leakers is, as ever, mixed at best.

What the Leaker Claims

The Reddit user wrote: “I can confirm that it is in the works. NOT a Remake, but a Remaster, with some caveats. That’s all I can say.” No further details were provided about what those caveats might be, nor about which studio would be handling the work, what platforms it might target, or when it could potentially be revealed.

The distinction between remaster and remake matters considerably for a game like Bloodlines. A remaster would typically involve updated textures, improved resolution support, and quality-of-life fixes while preserving the original game’s mechanics, level design, and overall structure. A remake, by contrast, would rebuild the game from the ground up, potentially reimagining combat, dialogue systems, and the famously buggy but beloved atmosphere of Troika Games’ original.

Treat with caution: No official announcement has been made by Paradox Interactive, CCP Games, or any other studio. The rumour rests entirely on an anonymous Reddit post with no corroborating evidence.

The Genitorturers Concert Connection

Separately, another Reddit post, flagged as requiring a grain of salt, links the rumour to a recent concert by Genitorturers, the industrial metal band whose music featured on the original Bloodlines soundtrack. According to the account, a band member mentioned at a Brooklyn show on 15 October that a remake of Bloodlines was in development.

One theory circulating among fans suggests that Paradox may have contacted the band to relicense their music for a new version of the game, since a remake would require fresh permissions for the original soundtrack. Whether the band members were referring to a remake of the 2004 game or simply confused it with last year’s Bloodlines 2 remains unclear.

The Bloodlines 2 Problem

Any enthusiasm for a return to the original Bloodlines must be tempered by the reception of its sequel. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 launched in October 2025 to lukewarm reviews, scoring 63 on Metacritic. Players were largely unimpressed, and Steam sales reportedly reached only around 150,000 copies.

Publisher Paradox Interactive subsequently wrote down approximately $37 million in development costs related to the game. CEO Fredrik Wester acknowledged that the title fell outside the company’s core areas, and Paradox has signalled it is no longer particularly keen on the franchise.

That financial reality makes a remaster of the 2004 original seem like an unlikely investment, though it is worth noting that Paradox did revive White Wolf Publishing in spring 2025 to oversee World of Darkness projects across games, books, and other media. Bloodlines 2 continues to receive DLC support through the third quarter of 2026, with two story packs planned.

Rights Complications

Even if a remaster were genuinely in development, significant rights complications would need to be resolved. The original Bloodlines was published by Activision, which is now part of Microsoft. Paradox has held the tabletop World of Darkness intellectual property since 2015, but that does not extend to the 2004 video game itself.

Any remaster or remake would require cooperation between Paradox and Microsoft, and there is no indication that such discussions have taken place. The rights situation adds a layer of complexity that makes even a straightforward remaster far from simple to produce.

What Fans Can Actually Play

For those craving a new vampire RPG in the meantime, Bloodlines writer Brian Mitsoda has opened a Scottish studio working on two new CRPGs. While neither project is a Bloodlines game, Mitsoda’s involvement suggests the creative spirit of the original may yet find expression elsewhere.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Oaths & Ashes, announced separately, is also in development from a different team. Whether any of these projects can recapture the magic of Troika’s flawed but unforgettable 2004 original remains to be seen.

Until Paradox, Microsoft, or any other party makes an official announcement, the remaster rumour remains exactly that: a rumour. Fans would be wise to treat it with the same scepticism they apply to any unverified leak, no matter how enticing the prospect of revisiting Los Angeles’ undead underworld might be.
