An easy 30-minute walk from the car park will take you to Talisker Beach.
The unusual thing about its waterfall is that it looks like the water is flowing up during a “hoolie” (strong winds).
The narrow waterfall pops against the dramatic cliffs and grey rocks on the sand.

Getting There & Parking
Talisker Bay is reached from Talisker village, a few miles west of Carbost and the distillery (which is confusingly at Carbost, not Talisker itself). There is a small parking area near Talisker House; be considerate as it is limited and close to a working farm.
From the parking, a track leads about a kilometre and a half to the beach through farmland. It is mostly flat and takes around 20 to 25 minutes each way.
What to See
The beach is a striking mix of black and white sand, streaked in patterns by the tide. A tall sea stack stands offshore, and on the north cliff a waterfall drops straight toward the sand – most dramatic after rain or in a stiff wind that blows the water back up.
It is an exposed, elemental spot rather than a sunbathing beach, which is exactly its appeal. Big Atlantic swells roll in and the light can change by the minute.

- Check tide times – the best of the sand is exposed at lower tide
- The cliff waterfall is far more impressive after rain
- Go at low sun for the strongest patterns in the black sand
- Parking is tight and near a farm, so park sensibly and close gates
- There are no facilities, so bring what you need
