Arc Raiders’ Biggest Update Yet Lands 8 October — New Map, New Enemies, New Home

24 September 2026 · 4 min read · News

When Embark Studios teased the Frozen Trail update earlier this month, most Arc Raiders players expected a new map and perhaps a handful of weapons. What the developer actually revealed on 23 September was something considerably more substantial: a full structural overhaul of how raiders progress, fight, and exist in the world. The update drops as a free patch on 8 October 2026 across PS5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, and it is, by some margin, the biggest thing Embark has shipped since launch.

Pendola Pass: The Frozen Mountain Hiding a Dead Emperor

The centrepiece of Frozen Trail is Pendola Pass, a vast snowy mountain region north of the Rust Belt. The map is built around a distinctive hook: a colossal Emperor ARC has fallen here, its enormous frame slumped against the mountainside, and raiders can venture inside to scavenge rare technology from its remains. Pendola Pass is Embark’s most ambitious map to date, designed to serve multiple playstyles simultaneously — enclosed industrial interiors for close-quarters fighting, open snowfields for long-range engagements, and significant vertical layers to reward positioning.

One new environmental hazard will keep even experienced raiders honest. Flash Freeze is an unpredictable weather condition that punishes anyone caught outside too long; when it hits, you either find shelter fast or pay the price. The map also introduces the Redirection condition, letting players call Harvester payloads away from the Queen — which draws both ARC robots and rival raiders to the same contested point.

Four New ARC Enemies — and One You Can’t Kill

Frozen Trail adds four new ARC threats, though calling the Frigate an “enemy” undersells it. This massive airborne carrier functions more like a high-stakes raid event: you board it, fight through hazards and new ARC types, and compete with other raiders for rare loot. The Frigate cannot be destroyed — only sabotaged — which means every encounter is time-pressured and chaotic.

The three ground-level additions cover different threat profiles. The Bully is a four-legged walker that charges relentlessly, forcing raiders to keep moving rather than dig in. The Skulker hides in bushes and behind cover, withdrawing mid-fight and circling back when you least expect it. Aboard the Frigate sits the Hydra, a triple-barrelled turret capable of targeting multiple raiders simultaneously — the kind of thing that ends a squad run if someone gets complacent.

Weapons Finally Get Serious Upgrades

Weapon Amplification is the headline progression addition. A new Research Workstation — built inside your Outpost — lets raiders specialise individual weapons rather than simply levelling them up. The Burletta pistol can be converted fully automatic. The Rattler can fire incendiary rounds. Fifteen weapons are eligible at launch, with more to follow. Two new firearms join the roster too: the Stiletto, a light-ammo battle rifle, and the Bantam, a compact revolver. Weapon skins arrive alongside these changes, with most found as loot in the world rather than sold outright.

Two gadgets round out the loadout additions. The Grappling Hook replaces the Snap Hook with a hand-thrown rope that lets you rappel, swing, or even tether to enemies and be dragged along behind them. The Tether Launcher fires two connected hooks simultaneously, opening up new ways to cross terrain or restrict movement.

Your Own Outpost, on the Surface

Perhaps the most significant quality-of-life shift in Frozen Trail is the Outpost system. The existing Raider Den — essentially a functional menu — is replaced with a proper customisable space where raiders can place furniture, crafting stations, and trinkets gathered on missions. The Outpost is also where the new Research Workstation lives, tying progression and personalisation together in the same location. Embark hasn’t made Outposts walkable spaces yet, but studio head Aleksander Grøndal has confirmed that’s the eventual goal — a genuine home on the surface.

Arc Raiders has been building quietly since launch, but Frozen Trail represents the point where Embark’s ambitions become fully visible. With a new skill tree rework also included in the patch, this is the update that turns the game from a strong early-access foundation into something that can reasonably claim to be complete. The 8 October release date gives current players a fortnight to clear out their inventories — and gives anyone who hasn’t tried Arc Raiders yet a compelling reason to start.
