For 15 years, Minecraft had exactly three dimensions. The Overworld, the Nether and The End — that was the complete set, unchanged since the End was first added in 2011. Now, at Minecraft LIVE September 2026, Mojang has finally broken that streak. The game is getting a fourth dimension, and it is unlike anything players have seen before.
Called the Sift, the new dimension was revealed during the latest Minecraft LIVE broadcast. Its visual identity is striking: pinkish blocks stretch across alien landscapes, dotted with blue-green vegetation that looks completely foreign to the game’s usual palette. It is, as PC Gamer noted, riotously pink.
What Is the Sift?
The Sift is a fully realised new dimension with its own biomes, creatures and environmental design. It arrives first in Minecraft Dungeons 2, launching on 29 September 2026 — just days from now. Players will be able to step into the Sift through the spin-off game before it reaches Minecraft Java Edition and Bedrock Edition, though that main-game arrival is not expected until some point in 2027.
Among the new creatures confirmed for the dimension are the Blubs, described as adorable rabbit-like mobs, and the Sculk Monstrosity, a threatening boss encounter that will presumably test even well-equipped players. The dimension’s unique colour scheme — pinks and blue-greens — suggests an entirely different aesthetic from the warm oranges of the Nether or the dark void of The End.
The Sift is the first time Minecraft has added a whole new reality in 15 years, since The End appeared in 2011.
The crossover between Dungeons 2 and the main game is a significant structural choice. Rather than revealing the dimension simultaneously everywhere, Mojang is using the spin-off as a gateway — giving Dungeons 2 players early access while building anticipation for the full Java and Bedrock release next year.

The Sift was not the only announcement. Minecraft Dungeons 2 itself received an extended showcase, revealing a more colourful art style than its predecessor, interconnected levels that emphasise exploration over linear mission selection, and the addition of jumping — a first for the series. Armour is now split into four traditional pieces plus talismans for passive abilities.
Also announced: Minecraft is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on 27 October, and underground ice caves are on the way to the main game later this year.
On the creative side, Jens Bergenström outlined changes to how player-created content works, making it both more involved and more accessible. New sound effect packs on the Marketplace will let players alter how everything sounds in the base game or in their own creations, though these are expected to carry a price tag.
Why a New Dimension Matters
The addition of a fourth dimension is more than just new content — it signals a willingness from Mojang to make structural changes to a game that has largely evolved within its existing framework. For over a decade, updates added biomes, mobs and mechanics within the three established dimensions. Breaking that pattern suggests the development team sees room for more radical expansion going forward.
Whether the Sift becomes a permanent fixture that grows over time or remains a contained addition, its arrival marks the most significant geographical change to Minecraft since the game left beta. For a game that has sold more than 300 million copies, that is saying something.
Players will not have to wait long to see it. Minecraft Dungeons 2 launches on 29 September, and the Sift will be waiting on the other side of that portal.
