Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’s Gamescom 2026 Trailer Reveals the Weapons and More

26 August 2026 · 3 min read · News

The trailer opens on the Shinra News Network, Rufus Shinra at a podium, assuring a restless public that humanity will “reign supreme” over the looming Meteor and the creatures rising to meet it. Then the real show begins. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’s second major trailer, unveiled at Gamescom Opening Night Live on 25 August 2026, dedicates most of its runtime to the Weapons — the planet’s ancient guardians — and leaves little doubt that these battles will be among the most significant in the entire remake trilogy.

Three Weapons Confirmed — and One Notably Absent

For the first time, three of the game’s four iconic Weapons have been shown in action. Ruby Weapon appears in what looks like desert terrain; Emerald Weapon rises from underwater depths; Ultima Weapon looms in the skies above. All three are rendered with a scale and menace that suggests they will be far more than optional encounters — at least some appear to be woven directly into Revelation’s main story.

Diamond Weapon, the fourth of the classic Weapons from the original Final Fantasy VII, is conspicuously absent from the trailer. Whether it appears as a story boss, an endgame challenge, or not at all remains to be confirmed.

“The Planet sees us as another threat to her well-being, and rightfully so.” — Vincent Valentine, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation

In the original game, Ruby and Emerald Weapon were notoriously difficult optional super bosses. Revelation appears to reimagine at least some of them as story-integrated spectacles, though the trailer hints that endgame versions — in keeping with their original status — may also be present. The GamesRadar analysis of the trailer noted that the Emerald Weapon encounter in particular looks dramatically expanded from its 1997 appearance.

Submarine Combat, the Highwind, and an Expanded World

The trailer’s most striking new gameplay sequence takes place underwater. The party is seen aboard a submarine with the Huge Materia secured inside, navigating through open ocean while the vessel dodges attacks. It’s a section that Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth players would not have encountered — and it suggests Revelation will make far more use of varied environments than its predecessors.

The Highwind airship also makes a prominent appearance, first in a pre-rendered cutscene showing it engaged directly with a Weapon, then in actual gameplay footage where the team is shown parachuting down from the aircraft. Chocobo riding across open terrain follows shortly after, reinforcing that Revelation’s world is built for the series’ most ambitious traversal yet.

Tifa’s Black Mage Outfit and the Class System in Action

Among the gameplay footage, Tifa is shown wearing a Black Mage class outfit — one of Revelation’s new customisation options for party members. Rebirth introduced class outfits as a way to modify character abilities, and Revelation appears to continue that system with new options across the roster.

The trailer’s tone throughout leans heavily into the gravity of what’s coming. Vincent Valentine’s voiceover — acknowledging the Planet’s perception of humanity as a threat — sets a very different mood from the more adventure-focused framing of earlier Revelation reveals. The story is heading into its darkest stretch, and the trailer makes no effort to soften that.

Key point: Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is the third and final game in the FF7 Remake trilogy, completing a project that began in 2020 with Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Spring 2027 Release Confirmed for All Major Platforms

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation launches in Spring 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The Spring window is broadly consistent with how Square Enix has handled the previous two games — both released in the March–April window — though an exact date is yet to be announced.

Director Naoki Hamaguchi has previously spoken about tying together the game’s narrative threads with major Final Fantasy VII spin-offs, and has expressed a preference for a physical edition release alongside the digital version. Both topics remain active discussions at Square Enix. For now, the Gamescom trailer has set expectations high — and the Weapons are only the beginning.
