Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls Reveals Year 1 DLC Roster With Phoenix Cyclops, Jane Foster’s Thor, Venom, and Jubilee

12 October 2026 · 3 min read · News

Arc System Works has revealed the full Year 1 DLC roster for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, confirming four new playable characters arriving throughout 2027. The lineup includes Phoenix Cyclops, Thor (Jane Foster), Venom, and Jubilee, with the first character launching just three weeks from now.

Phoenix Cyclops arrives on 2nd November, making him the first post-launch fighter in the tag-team brawler. He joins a roster that has already shown a willingness to subvert expectations, featuring Shuri’s Black Panther rather than T’Challa’s and the Phoenix Force-infused Cyclops rather than the standard version most players know.

Why Phoenix Cyclops and Not Regular Cyclops?

In a PlayStation Blog post, producer Takeshi Yamanaka explained the reasoning behind the Phoenix version. The team felt that Cyclops had appeared in so many fighting games over the years that they needed to find a way to present him that felt different from what players had seen before.

“During those discussions, our narrative team proposed the idea of using the Phoenix version of Cyclops,” Yamanaka said. “We felt this interpretation would allow us to create fresher visuals and a more exciting fighting style while offering something unexpected for players.”

Phoenix Cyclops is designed as an all-rounder who excels at both long-range combat and close-range strikes through his versatile use of Optic Blasts. The Phoenix Force adds new visual flair and gameplay mechanics that distinguish him from previous Cyclops portrayals in fighting games. Classic and Legacy costumes will also launch alongside the character on 2nd November.

Why DLC? Yamanaka explained that Phoenix Cyclops was originally considered for the base roster, but the team “made the difficult decision to continue working on the character until we felt like we were adding something new,” resulting in his release as the first post-launch fighter.

Jane Foster’s Thor Takes Up Mjolnir

The second DLC character is Thor, but not the version most players expect. Instead of Thor Odinson, Arc System Works has chosen Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor, continuing the game’s pattern of unexpected roster picks. A new trailer shows Jane Foster confronting Loki in the Asgard stage, wielding Mjolnir and unleashing the electrifying power of the God of Thunder.

Jane Foster’s Thor is slated for a winter 2027 release, though no exact date has been confirmed. The character will join a game that has already demonstrated strong visual identity and creative character interpretations.

Venom and the Klyntar Stage

Spider-Man’s symbiote frenemy Venom arrives in spring 2027, bringing his signature tendrils and aggressive playstyle to the roster. Venom will be accompanied by a new post-launch stage called Klyntar, the artificial planet that hosts alien symbiotes in various Marvel comic incarnations.

Venom is a fairly mainstream pick compared to some of the game’s more unexpected choices, but his inclusion fills a gap in the roster’s villain representation and adds a new dynamic to team compositions.

Jubilee Completes the Year 1 Lineup

The final Year 1 DLC character is Jubilee, the X-Men mainstay known for her fireworks-like energy powers. She is expected to arrive in summer 2027, rounding out a year of content that spans mutant heroes, Asgardian gods, and symbiote villains.

Jubilee’s inclusion adds another X-Men representative to the roster, which already features Phoenix Cyclops and other mutant characters. Her flashy powerset and youthful energy should provide a contrast to the heavier hitters in the lineup.

Year 1 Character and Stage Pass Pricing

The Year 1 Character and Stage Pass costs $34.99 and includes all four characters, the Klyntar stage, and a set of battle result poses for the game’s 20 base roster characters. The poses are accessible immediately upon purchasing the pass, while the characters and stage become available as they release.

Alternatively, players can purchase the $84.99 Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes the base game and the Year 1 pass. Individual character purchases are also available for those who do not want the full bundle.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is available now on PlayStation 5 and PC. The game has received positive reception for its creative roster picks, vibrant visual style, and tag-team mechanics that differentiate it from other fighting games in the market.
