GTA 6 Launch Trailer Drops With 90 Seconds of Vice City Chaos

16 October 2026 · 3 min read · News

Thirty-five days. That’s all that separates players from the most anticipated video game launch in over a decade. Rockstar Games dropped the Grand Theft Auto VI launch trailer on October 15, and it wastes no time throwing you back into the neon-soaked streets of Vice City with Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos front and centre.

The 90-second clip, captured entirely on PlayStation 5, opens with Jason working at a marina in the Leonida Keys — buffing dents on a boat, reflecting on a troubled army past. “I got in some trouble in the army,” he says in voiceover. “Didn’t leave on the best of terms.” Then Lucia calls. The trailer kicks into overdrive.

Jason’s Military Past Comes Back to Haunt Him

The launch trailer peels back layers of Jason Duval’s backstory that previous reveals kept hidden. We see flashbacks that look like they’re pulled straight from his military days — tactical gear, desert environments, the kind of shadowy operations that don’t end up in official records. The voiceover makes it clear: whatever happened in uniform, it followed him home to Leonida.

Working alongside characters like Raul Bautista and Cal Hampton, Jason and Lucia find themselves tangled in what Rockstar describes as “a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida” after an easy score goes spectacularly wrong. The trailer shows helicopters flying part of a bank vault into a building, Lucia hanging from a plane’s landing gear, and Jason fighting someone on a hovercraft. Standard Tuesday in Vice City, then.

Key detail: Lucia’s ankle monitor appears clearly in the trailer for the first time, confirming long-running rumours about how it looks in-game. Rockstar has stated in interviews that the monitor plays a real role in the story.

Justice Scores the Soundtrack

The music announcement might be the trailer’s biggest surprise. French electronic duo Justice — who are composing the game’s original score — debuted their new track “Flower in a Hurricane” over the trailer’s action montage. The song features Tame Impala, SZA, and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, and it will appear on Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, launching alongside the game on November 19.

Pre-save links for streaming services are live, with vinyl and CD pre-orders already open. Last week Rockstar revealed the in-game radio stations and their all-star host lineups, plus the ability to listen to podcasts while cruising through Leonida.

What We Actually Learned

Most of the trailer confirms predictions rather than introducing entirely new information. The relationship between Jason and Lucia remains central — we see banter beside their car, a shower scene where they’re kissing against the wall, romantic moments intercut with the criminal chaos. Rockstar has never shied from the fact that GTA VI contains sex scenes; based on this trailer, those moments are framed so nothing explicit is shown.

The “PLAYS BEST ON PS5” text appears right at the start, emphasising that Rockstar considers the PlayStation 5 version the definitive experience. Xbox Series X/S gets the game too, but that opening card makes the platform preference clear.

November 19 Can’t Come Soon Enough

This is technically the fourth major GTA 6 video if you count the original Trailer 1 from December 2023, Trailer 2 from May 2025, and August’s 26-minute Extended Look. But it’s the first one that feels like the finish line is actually visible. Thirty-five days of marketing left, and Rockstar has already confirmed the game is running on final hardware this close to launch.

Grand Theft Auto VI launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026. Whether you’re pre-ordering digital, grabbing a disc, or waiting for the inevitable collector’s edition restock, the countdown is officially on.
