GTA 6 stars two playable protagonists: Lucia Caminos — the first female lead in a mainline Grand Theft Auto — and Jason Duval, an army veteran turned drug runner. Their Bonnie-and-Clyde relationship drives the story, and Rockstar has named seven supporting characters around them. Everything here is confirmed from Rockstar’s Trailer 2 reveal on 6 May 2025.
This is the first time a mainline GTA has launched with two leads you control from the start, and the first with a woman in the lead role. Here’s who they are and who surrounds them.
Jason and Lucia
The two leads are a couple, and the story is built around their relationship. Rockstar has given both full names and backstories.
The fighter
The operator
Lucia is the first female protagonist in mainline GTA history. Her father taught her to fight from an early age, and defending her family landed her in the Leonida Penitentiary; Trailer 2 opens on her release, with Jason waiting outside. Jason is an army veteran who grew up around grifters and crooks and now runs errands for local drug operations in the Keys. Rockstar frames meeting Lucia as “the best or worst thing to ever happen to him”.
The dual-protagonist story
Rockstar describes the pair as a modern Bonnie and Clyde, and for the first time in the series you’ll play two leads from the outset rather than unlocking them over time. How switching works minute to minute in the open world hasn’t been fully detailed, but the story clearly centres on the two of them together.
