WoW: Forever Beta Launches Today — Times, Access and What to Expect

17 September 2026 · 4 min read · News

Is this the World of Warcraft you remember — or something new entirely? That is the question Blizzard wants players to answer for themselves, starting today. World of Warcraft: Forever is Blizzard’s latest interpretation of Azeroth, sitting somewhere between WoW Classic nostalgia and the live-service systems of modern World of Warcraft. As of 17 September 2026, the beta is live, and here is everything you need to know to get in and play.

When Does the WoW: Forever Beta Go Live?

The World of Warcraft: Forever beta opens today following a live developer Q&A stream that begins at 10:30 am PDT. Blizzard says the beta will go live once that stream concludes — expect roughly 30 to 60 minutes for the Q&A itself, putting actual access somewhere around 11:00–11:30 am PDT.

Regional times for the stream start:

  • 10:30 am PDT — Los Angeles
  • 1:30 pm EDT — New York
  • 6:30 pm BST — London
  • 7:30 pm CEST — Berlin

The beta runs through 21 October 2026, giving players just over a month of hands-on time before the November launch. If you are in the UK or Europe, you will have the rest of the evening today to start exploring once the servers come up.

How to Get World of Warcraft: Forever Beta Access

There are two routes in. The guaranteed option is to purchase one of the premium editions from the Battle.net Shop:

  • Skyborne Epic Pack — $59.99 (approx. £51.99). Includes beta access, 30 days of Game Time credited on launch day, the new Skyborne race and Zephras Isle starting experience, early name reservation, cosmetics, pets, and three Invite-A-Friend codes.
  • Warcraft Forever Collection — $79.99 (approx. £69.99). A limited-time bundle that combines the Skyborne Epic Pack with Warcraft strategy-game content.

The second route is free but not guaranteed: head to the World of Warcraft: Forever website, find the “Beta Opt-in” button at the top of the page, and submit your account. Blizzard distributes these spots without any set schedule, so there is no way to know how quickly they will go out.

To check whether you have beta access on either route, open the Battle.net launcher, click the World of Warcraft dropdown menu, and look for “World of Warcraft: Forever” as a selectable version.

Launch note: World of Warcraft: Forever launches globally on 4 November 2026 at 3:00 pm PST. At launch, access is included with an existing WoW subscription or game time — you do not need to buy a premium pack to play the finished game.

What Is World of Warcraft: Forever, Exactly?

World of Warcraft: Forever is not a new expansion in the traditional sense, and it is not a straight WoW Classic re-release. Blizzard describes it as a “reimagined original Azeroth” — the familiar continents and classic storylines are present, but with new systems, updated progression, and Blizzard’s intent that the world “grow for years to come.”

The new Skyborne race — accessible to players who purchase any of the upgrade editions — is one of the clearest signals that this is not pure nostalgia. Skyborne characters begin in Zephras Isle, a new starting area, and the race integrates into the Azeroth world rather than retrofitting into Classic content. On top of that, the game runs on a modernised client rather than the legacy architecture of WoW Classic.

Whether Blizzard has found the balance between the original game’s feeling and modern quality-of-life expectations is exactly what the beta is designed to reveal. Players who remember spending months in Azeroth before The Burning Crusade launched will have strong opinions; the studio is counting on that community to stress-test both the nostalgia and the new additions before the 4 November launch date.

Early name reservation opens on 27 October for anyone who purchased an upgrade edition. If there is a specific character name you want to hold onto from the original game, that is your window.

For subscribers who were around during World of Warcraft’s original years, Forever is framed as an invitation to replay the journey with fresh eyes rather than a static museum piece. For newer players who came in during later expansions, it is a chance to walk the roads that shaped the game’s mythology before they became altered by Cataclysm and everything that followed. Blizzard is betting both audiences find something worth staying for.
