One of the most popular attractions in the Scottish Highlands, the magical Jacobite Steam Train, aka the Harry Potter Train, is becoming increasingly difficult to see in motion. The solution is to book one of the many Glenfinnan Viaduct tours that leave from the following cities, as I did from Edinburgh.

Helpful Information
The Jacobite Stream Train runs from Fort William to Mallaig and back and operates between the end of March and October.
The direction of travel will determine the best viewpoint at the Glenfinnan Viaduct.
If the train is travelling from Fort William, you want to be positioned to the left of the viaduct, and if travelling from Mallaig, head to the right.
Ask staff if you are unsure.
The hilly viewpoints get muddy regardless of the weather, so wear appropriate footwear.
The car park fills up quickly, and staff stop cars from entering; tour buses are allocated spaces, so you are guaranteed to see the train.
Other things to do in the area include dining at the Glenfinnan Viaduct cafe (food truck style), viewing Loch Shiel from the viewpoint or walking to the loch, where you will also find the Glenfinnan Monument, a tribute to those who died fighting for the Jacobites.
