How bosses work

Valheim’s eight bosses are the backbone of its progression. Each is tied to a biome, and you beat them roughly in order because each drop unlocks the gear or keys you need for the next region. To summon one, you find its altar — marked by red-glowing vegvisir runestones — gather the summoning items from that biome, and place them on the Forsaken Altar. Beating a boss lets you mount its trophy at the Sacrificial Stones to claim a Forsaken Power: a permanent ability you can activate whenever you need it, like faster running or stronger attacks. The 1.0 release added the eighth and final boss, Kall Fimbulbringer, in the new Deep North biome.

Valheim bosses FAQ

How many bosses are in Valheim?
Eight, as of the 1.0 release: Eikthyr, The Elder, Bonemass, Moder, Yagluth, The Queen, Fader and the new final boss Kall Fimbulbringer in the Deep North.

What order should I fight Valheim bosses in?
Roughly: Eikthyr, The Elder, Bonemass, Moder, Yagluth, The Queen, Fader, then Kall Fimbulbringer. Each drops the gear and keys you need for the next biome.

What is a Forsaken Power?
A permanent ability each boss drops. You mount the boss trophy at the Sacrificial Stones to claim it, then activate it whenever you like — for faster running, stronger attacks and more.

Who is the final boss in Valheim?
Kall Fimbulbringer, added in the Deep North with the 1.0 release. It’s a three-phase fight that pits you against spirit versions of the previous bosses before an empowered finale.

How do I find a boss altar?
Look for red-glowing vegvisir runestones in each biome — they mark the boss’s location on your map. Gather the summoning items, place them on the Forsaken Altar, and fight.

Valheim reached version 1.0 on 9 September 2026 with the Deep North and its final boss. Boss details are current as of 1.0 and may be tweaked in future patches.
