Scotland Travel Budget

Travel

  • Car: My own
  • Fuel: £140 approx – two full tanks
  • Train, ferry, parking: £51.10

Total: £191.1

Food

The total includes dining out and food shops for snacks. I didn’t eat lavish meals and opted for hiking with fewer crowds while others sat in restaurants. I also didn’t drink alcohol aside from a few sips at a whisky-tasting class in Edinburgh, so you might need to add a few more pounds on if you plan to paint the town red!

  • Day 1: Breakfast roll, salad box, snacks
  • Day 2: Packed breakfast from B&B, lobster and fries, pesto beans on toast, snacks, and a brownie
  • Day 3: B&B breakfast, hiking snacks, pizza, brownie – I was sick at night
  • Day 4: Skipped breakfast as too scared to eat, banana bread, ramen
  • Day 5: Steak pie, snacks, ice cream, fish and chips
  • Day 6: B&B breakfast, haggis, neeps and tatties, whisky tasting, Pot Noodle at hotel
  • Day 7: Hotel breakfast, sandwich, cake, take-out sushi

Total: £195.67

Accommodation

I booked a double room for five nights and a single for one. Breakfast was included in the price for five out of the six nights—this is a great budget-saving tip for Scotland!

  • Night 1: Cornerstone, Mallaig
  • Night 2: Greenacres, Portree
  • Night 3: Greenacres, Portree
  • Night 4: Alban and Abbey House – no breakfast
  • Night 5: The Coastal Inn Outbuilding, Cellardkye (Fife)
  • Night 6: Holiday Inn City Centre

Total: £943.50

  • Urquhart Castle (HS)
  • Loch Ness Centre
  • Culloden Battlefield Tour (NTS)
  • Whisky tasting at Hot Toddy Edinburgh
