Coral Beach lies at the end of a single-track road past Dunvegan Castle, at Claigan on the north-west coast. There is a small car park at the trailhead; it is limited, so arrive earlier in the day in summer.
From the car park a track of about 1.2km leads over fields to the beach, an easy walk of around 20 to 25 minutes each way.
What to See
The beach is startlingly white, and on a bright day the shallow water glows a Caribbean-like turquoise that feels out of place this far north. The pale sand is not coral at all but crushed maerl, a hard red seaweed that bleaches white when it dries.
A low hill behind the beach gives a fine view over the bay and out to the islands, and it is worth the short extra climb for the panorama.
