World of Warcraft: Forever Could Eventually Reach Northrend and Pandaria, Blizzard Teases

13 October 2026 · 3 min read · News

The beta for World of Warcraft: Forever is in full swing, and players are already asking the question Blizzard knew was coming: where does Azeroth go from here? According to executive producer Holly Longdale and associate production director Clay Stone, the answer is essentially everywhere.

Speaking to content creator JackedIQ, the pair revealed that nothing is off the table for the permanent third branch of World of Warcraft. When asked about the possibility of visiting Northrend or Pandaria — continents introduced in later expansions — Longdale’s response was emphatic.

“Broadly speaking, nothing is off the table,” Longdale said. “It’s more what the team decides to do, where they want the narrative to grow.”

Original Continents Can Evolve Too

Forever launches with a focus on the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, set during the first year of World of Warcraft’s timeline. But Blizzard is careful to note that even those original continents are not static. New areas built into the framework — Mount Hyjal, Shen’dralas, the Riverglades, and Zephras Isle — already demonstrate that the game can expand without abandoning its vanilla roots.

“You could spend a lifetime in the two continents as they evolve,” Longdale explained, before reiterating that “everything is on the table at this point.”

Stone added context about the creative possibilities within the game’s chosen time period. “Azeroth is a big place — and this time period that we get to play with is a really cool time period, basically staying in that first year of World of Warcraft,” he said. “There’s some really cool creative ideas that the team has for how we can play in that space.”

Launch details: World of Warcraft: Forever launches on 4 November 2026. The beta runs until 21 October. The game retains a permanent level 60 cap with no flying mounts or level scaling.

What the Community Wants

The forum response has been enthusiastic. Players have been vocal about wanting Northrend specifically, with many arguing the continent’s strong identity — Howling Fjord, Grizzly Hills, Dragonblight, Icecrown, Storm Peaks — gives Forever enormous material to build upon. The key distinction: they do not want a recreation of Wrath of the Lich King, but rather a Forever-specific interpretation of Northrend with its own stories.

One popular forum post argued that older lands should continue to matter after new ones arrive, rather than each addition making its predecessor irrelevant. The hope is that Forever becomes cumulative — Azeroth growing over years without retiring what came before.

What Is Confirmed for Launch

For now, Blizzard is focused on delivering the base experience. Forever launches on 4 November with the Eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdor, and the new regions woven into that original-world framework. No expansion continent outside the original Azeroth is part of the announced scope. There is no new playable class, no level cap increase above 60, and no transition into The Burning Crusade.

The game deliberately excludes flying mounts and level scaling — systems associated with later expansions. The level cap is permanently set at 60, and the adventure focuses on exploration and social play within that constraint.

A Different Kind of Expansion

Longdale concluded with a hint of dry humour about the ambitious scope. “We just wanted to see if anyone was going to play it first,” she joked.

Whether Northrend or Pandaria arrive in six months or six years, the message from Blizzard is clear: Forever is not a museum piece frozen in vanilla’s image. It is a living version of Azeroth that can grow in any direction the team and the community decide. For players who have spent two decades exploring every corner of the Warcraft universe, that is exactly the answer they wanted to hear.
