Full spoilers for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 below. In the finale, Talia lets the rogue AI Capricorn (Capri) take over her body, triggering an Akira-style rampage through Night City. Two major characters die — Kiril, Talia’s Kang Tao executive father, and Kyoko, the Arasaka scientist behind the Capri project — while Weak, Talia and Roman survive. The fate of the first arc’s protagonist, D, is deliberately left open: he flies toward a light in the sky with Capri, and the show cuts away.
Here is the Edgerunners 2 ending explained — who survives, what Talia’s choice means, and whether it sets up a third season. The second season premiered on Netflix on 20 October 2026, with Kai Ikarashi directing and Bartosz Sztybor returning as showrunner, and drove a wave of interest (224,184 English Wikipedia views in a week) that pushed the game to a three-year player-count high. This explainer draws on the finale and published recaps (ScreenRant, What’s on Netflix, FandomWire), as of October 2026.

The two storylines, recapped
Edgerunners 2 runs two threads that converge. The first follows D on a quest for revenge that leads him to Capricorn — nicknamed Capri — a digital being so powerful it can hack almost anything. The second follows Talia running away from home, which pushes her mother Avida to enlist her former lover Weak to track the girl down. As the season progresses, Talia’s family tragedy and D’s pursuit of Capri collide, with the megacorps Kang Tao and Arasaka circling the uncontrollable AI at the centre of both. By the finale, Talia has been given full access to Capricorn — the trigger for everything that follows.
The ending, explained
With full access to Capricorn and reeling from her mother’s death — and furious at her corporate father — Talia lets Capri take over her body. The unstable AI, now wearing Talia, goes on an Akira-esque rampage through Night City, a deliberate nod to the anime landmark’s runaway-power finale. In the chaos, the story settles its villains: Kiril, Talia’s father and a Kang Tao executive, is killed, and so is Kyoko, the Arasaka scientist bound to the Capri project. The corporate hands that tried to weaponise the AI both pay for it.
When the dust settles, Weak, Talia and Roman survive. Talia is pulled back from the brink and begins recovering with Weak’s help, though the finale makes clear she will need her cyberware removed to fully separate from Capri — a lasting cost in true Edgerunners fashion, where nobody walks away from the chrome unscathed.

What happens to D?
The season’s biggest question mark is D. Rather than a clean death or survival, the finale gives him an ambiguous send-off: he flies toward a light in the sky alongside Capri, and the show cuts away before revealing what happens. It is a deliberate choice — the kind of open ending that reads as either a transcendent exit (D leaving the physical world with the AI) or a hook for more story. The lack of a confirmed death is the clearest signal the creators are keeping their options open.
Does it set up Season 3?
The ending leaves the door open rather than promising more. D’s unresolved fate, Capri surviving the rampage, and Talia’s long recovery are all threads a third season could pull on — and Netflix has not confirmed one at the time of writing. Given the first season’s cultural impact and the viewing spike around this release, a continuation is plausible, but Edgerunners 2 works as a self-contained tragedy either way. Treat Season 3 as possible, not confirmed.
