En Avión — Aeropuerto de Edimburgo

El Aeropuerto de Edimburgo está a unos 13 km al oeste del centro. En Tren — Waverley y Haymarket

En Autobús y Autocar

La Estación de Autobuses de Edimburgo está en St Andrew Square, a pocos pasos de George Street y St James Quarter. There is no bad time to visit Edinburgh — each season brings something different in weather, prices y events. Temperatures here are measured in Celsius, y the city is famous for equipaje four seasons into one day, so plan for changeable conditions whenever you come.

Verano (junio–agosto)

The busiest y priciest season, peaking when the Edinburgh Festival Fringe takes over for three weeks in August — rooms can triple in price y sell out, so book well ahead. Days are gloriously long (sunrise around 4:30am, sunset near 10pm) with highs around 20–26°C, though it can still dip to 8°C.

Otoño (septiembre–noviembre)

A lovely, mellower time to visit: warm early-September days (up to about 21°C) giving way to orange foliage y darker, atmospheric evenings perfect for ghost tours. The calendar fills up with Halloween on the 31st, Bonfire Night on 5 November, the Christmas Market from mid-November y St Andrew’s Day on the 30th.

Cold, crisp y festive. December lows hover around 1°C y February can dip below freezing; occasional snow is magical but rarely lasts. The big event is Hogmanay, Edinburgh’s world-famous New Year celebration from 30 December to 1 January. Some rural attractions close for the season. Lighter mornings, blooming gardens y the city’s celebrated cherry blossom (best late April into May), soon followed by purple wisteria in the New Town. Highs reach about 18°C but lows can still drop to -2°C, so pack layers. Locals half-joke that April y May are Scotl y’s summer.

Money, Costs & Propinas

Scotl y uses the pound sterling (£ GBP). You will see Scottish banknotes alongside Bank of Engl y notes; both are legal, but some shops in Engl y are wary of Scottish notes, so swap any before heading south. Edinburgh is largely cashless — most places prefer card or phone — though it is worth keeping a little change for public toilets y rural car parks.

Most cards are accepted at hotels y attractions, but American Express is patchy in cafes, pubs y smaller shops. Tap for contactless or use chip y pin. Free ATMs are widely available at banks y outside larger stores such as Tesco — avoid small corner-shop machines, which often charge a fee (they will warn you on screen). Check with your bank about foreign-transaction charges before you travel.

Propinas

Propinas is appreciated but not m yatory. For good table service, around 10% is customary — check the receipt first, as some restaurants add a service charge. Tip walking-tour guides at the end, even on a free tour, y tip hotel staff who help with luggage. You would not normally tip a taxi driver.

Breakfast runs from around 7am, with brunch winding down about 11am — most hotels serve a full Scottish (haggis, black pudding, sausage, bacon, eggs, tattie scones), y spots like Loudons do eggs Benedict y pancakes too. Lunch is roughly noon to 2pm (some kitchens then close until dinner), y many cafes shut around 3pm. Dinner — called tea by some Scots — starts from 5pm. The single hardest part of planning an Edinburgh trip is equipaje for four seasons in one day. Bring plenty of layers, a waterproof jacket y genuinely comfortable shoes — you will cover a lot of steps y a fair few cobbles y hills.

Edinburgh is generally a safe, welcoming city for locals y visitors alike. Use normal city common sense: be aware after dark, y if you dislike crowds of revellers, steer clear of Cowgate y Grassmarket at pub y club closing time. Save the atmospheric closes y parks for daylight.

Free WiFi is common in accommodation y some cafes but not always reliable, so download anything important. Most locals message via WhatsApp, Signal y the usual social apps. Edinburgh l ylines start 0131. The tourist information centre, the Edinburgh iCentre, is at 249 High Street on the Royal Mile.
